New Life

The lilac tree that I thought was dead has found new life this Spring..So happy it made it through the winter and is very healthy looking. Will have to keep "babying it"

It's April 2010.. The Greenery is open but it is only 28 degrees this a.m. We have had some unusual warm days in the 70's ..always transition time here in zone 4..photo of flat of pansies waiting to be planted..hummm, wonder when? Had a huge RAT digging holes in raised flower bed. Been watching him destroy and move dirt for months now...GOT HIM yesterday..hate to kill anything but I think rodents are ok...Winter seemed long but not a lot of snow..Everything is blooming..Grass needs mowing already..yeah...Can't wait to get going..

See You in April

It's February 19th, 2010 and I am looking at last years backyard flower garden(photo at top), now buried with debris and snow , getting sooo anxious for Spring to happen !! Or should I say Summer..planting doesn't take place in zone 4 here in upstate New York until June 1st..I pass by "THE GREENERY" sign that says "SEE YOU IN APRIL"...it always gets me through the winter months as a reminder that it will come....Always a surprise to see what survives from year to year..It truly is a miracle of nature...Hoping the peony bushes and lilac tree make it this year...Lilac tree doubtfull, didn't look good before winter set in....

" There's little risk in becoming overly proud of one's garden because gardening by its very nature is humbling; it has a way of keeping you on your knees."
